“Matthew is a genius whose magic needs to be shared with the world.” - Eva Longoria

What if you’re trying to do something and getting no rewards?

I’m on Clearwater beach right now getting ready to start my 5-day Retreat tomorrow. I don’t have my normal video set up with me, but I’m going to do my best to shoot something on my phone to say hi while I’m here.

In two weeks my show comes out on NBC.

In just three weeks my book comes out in North America.

All this means that my current schedule is pretty unrelenting.

As I write this my trainers are all sat around me on the top floor of the hotel, working on content before we go into action mode for the next 5 days.

Here’s the view from where I am:

It’s always strange the day before going on stage. I sit and think about all of the things I want to convey, and I go through my training manuals to make sure I’m on my game. One of the most important things to do before a speech is to emotionally connect with your material. If you don’t do that you can have the best material in the world but you won’t speak from the heart.

I work incredibly hard and I think about my work a lot. Often people tell me to take a break or to go on holiday. But what they don’t realise is that this IS my holiday. I’m doing what I love. There’s nothing else in the world I’d rather be doing. Maybe that’ll change one day. Maybe I’ll go in another direction altogether. But until it does, I’ll keep doing this all day everyday, because my life is focused on doing what I LOVE.

When I talk to people about their lives and whether they are doing what they love, I often hear this response: “Yeah but for you it’s easier because the successes you get validates the work you’re putting into it. It reinforce your efforts so it becomes easier to work hard.”

There is a lot of truth to this. The successes I’ve gotten HAVE reinforced my behaviour and provided much needed motivation at times.

But here is where this idea misses the point:

I was doing this LONG before there were any successes to report.

For those of you who have been following my work for years, you may remember this video:

I filmed this over 3 years ago when I was living in my apartment in London and none of this had happened. I have even older videos from 3 years before that (which were pretty terrible by today’s standards) when I was really only starting out in coaching. When I first started I was in survival mode. It really wasn’t easy. There was a ton of rejection. Lots of doors closing on me from people who said I was nobody, that I had no experience and wasn’t established enough.

But I did it anyway because, well, what else would I do?

See it’s true that on some projects in life you stop when you’re not getting any rewards.

But when it’s your love, your passion, you do it regardless of the ‘validation’, because you know you wouldn’t be doing anything else in the world.

If your love in life was business, then you wouldn’t stop creating businesses just because one project didn’t pay off. You would just change your approach. If you love business then you know you’ll be creating businesses till the day you die, because that’s what you love.

A painter who is a painter in her heart doesn’t stop painting because no one is buying her work. She paints because that’s who she is at her core – a creative soul who expresses it through her paintings. She doesn’t do it for the money.

I love the lifestyle I get from my public speaking. I love the fact that I get to travel. I love the amazing individuals I’ve been able to meet as a result, and the opportunities it affords me in life. But I was doing this before I had any of that, and I’ll still be doing this when the TV cameras go away. I’d do this if there was NO money in it and I had to sustain myself working in Mcdonalds. I’d be doing this if I had only one person to give a seminar to each week, because I F*****G LOVE learning about and helping people. It’s my obsession.

Everything else is a just a wonderful bonus (most of which I never even anticipated, let alone got motivated by).

Oh and do I need to point out the obvious parallel with your love life?

  • Flirt because you LOVE flirting.
  • Love because you LOVE loving.
  • Be courageous because you LOVE being courageous.

Don’t do it for the rewards – those are all just wonderful bonuses.

I want to leave you with a video today from an up-and-coming artist who is also carving his space out in the world. His name is George Watsky and he’s another great story to follow. His new song is called Cardboard Castles. I have no reason to promote his work other than the fact that his song sums up so much of this blog post, and that I love to help someone succeed in doing what they love.

My favourite line of the song:

“I do things on a shoe string you couldn’t do with a cool mill”.

Because that’s what we do here on this blog. We work with what we have. You don’t have stone? Then build your castles out of cardboard.

I’ll finish with a question aimed at you…

What do you do in your life for no other reason than you LOVE it? If you have 30 seconds tell me by leaving a comment below. I can’t wait to learn about your passion in life.

Massive love to you AND your wonderful life.

Matthew

Hello friends, an awesome and amazing testimony about a Great spell caster i really love to share. My name is Phil Scott from the United States. Getting my wife back is what i least expected and could never imagine. I and my wife have been married for five years and we have been living happily but all of a sudden she changed completely and turned away from me and i never knew what was going on, i tried to ask her but she refused to tell me what the problem is, and as time went on she sought for a divorce. I was so worried and confused, and i did all my possible best to get her back but it wasn’t easy, i thought all hope was lost, and during my search for a way out, a friend of mine who had similar problem told me about a great spell caster called Great Eziza who helped him get back his wife also. I never believe in spell casting in my entire life or a magic because i never thought it will work but i tried to give this man a chance and to my greatest surprise, He cast a spell on me but today we are back together into a lovely home with three beautiful kids. We are happy together again and i am using this opportunity to tell anyone passing similar situation to contact him on ezizatempleofsolution@gmail. com and you will be the next to tell a new testimony.

    Matthew,

I just found you today, well yesterday as I have been spending hours checking out your videos and now your blog.

My grandmother always said that she was the luckiest person she could be because she loved her work. She went to bed thinking of how she couldn’t wait to get up and get back to it.

For me, this is the scariest question I could be asking myself at this time in my life. Guess I am going to wrestle with it for now.

So why am I responding if I don’t have an answer…

It seems like a perfect place to send “your appreciated” out to you!

    Warm regards,
    Elizabeth

Just for fun, I blog about being awesome. I don’t make a single penny off of it (at least not yet), but I LOVE the gratification of hearing that something I wrote made a difference in someone’s life. It’s an amazing feeling to know that I helped to brighten someone’s day!

  4. Sarah says:

    Hey Matt,
In many of your videos you talk about meeting people through your friends and going out with friends to find the right guy or to expand your social circle. What about in scenarios were you are unable to meet people through your friends or that your friends are not the type to want to go out often… What would you reccommend in a situation such as that?
    Thanks!

  5. Ilona says:

Thanks Matt! Thanks for the live event in London in February. It was one of the happiest days in my life. After I left the event I felt like dancing in the middle of the road all night long.. I felt like hugging the whole world:)
    It was so impressive!

  6. Mel says:

I’m one of those who may be “on the curb again” shortly, but for me it’s a day by day thing. I’m a grad student, and like you I intend to pursue a career in coaching (I am going into life coaching, and while I’m sure relationship issues will come up, my focus is on the individual). This is my “cardboard castle”. I’m not going to stop.

Thank you for sharing your own story of perseverance, reflections, for the advice you publish for free (I did buy your book, and as finances become available, will continue being a loyal customer because I find so much value in your work, your life’s calling). Maybe one day we’ll meet in person at one of your seminars. Maybe one of these days you’ll have a life coach who will ask for your consulting services to teach her how to guide her clients in finding and sustaining the right relationship!

So, for me and I’m sure many others out there, could you write or produce something that would give us an idea of how to avoid the problem of being able to attract men like flies on honey, however we end up having to reject great guys because they move too fast and this is unacceptable to US (women), because we haven’t had the time and opportunity to even get to know the guy! Getting the guy may prove challenging for some, and for others, the problem is getting the guy to slow down to the point where we can get to know him, build a relationship, and then be in a position to evaluate future prospects.

I love everything you produce, and give total kudos to your book. I’d like to see something about how to get the guy to hold off on his marriage proposal for long enough (like, literally longer than a month!) to allow us time to make clear decisions. This is a very tricky situation; I have never found a way to decline a marriage proposal and still be able to maintain a dating relationship.

  9. George Miller says:

My wife has accused me of a lot of things in our years of marriage some of those accusation were true and i admitted to doing them but am to much in love with her to give her an s.t.d. She was down to end our marriage cos she believed i gave an s.t.d. She had a good reason to believe that cos of late i haven’t been the best husband. Thank God that s@@t was clarified in the Trisha show that i was not responsible for the s.t.d. She was in love with me as i was in love with her. Yes i will admit to the fact that i f$$ked up so many times but we always got around our problem i don’t mean avoid it i mean we fixed our problem like real adults but my stepson always thought i was not good enough for his mother. We never really got along. I never hated him, but he just didn’t like me and i wasn’t gonna suck up to him.He just wanted me out of their life and our problem just made it possible for him to see that happen cos he also accused me of giving my wife, his mother s.t.d. I agreed to do the Trisha show thinking maybe it will help fix our marriage but it made it even worse. After the show she was more down to leave me. She asked that i move out of the house filed for a divorce and all. I thought she will come to her sense and see that though she had s.t.d i still wanted to be with her. I thought if i should give her time the anger and bitterness will die but it didn’t even after a whole month after everything. She had the divorce papers delivered to me. I could not let her go just like that.I got desperate and i started panicking so i used a spell to get her back i know most people don’t believe and you may call me crazy but it worked for me. I found a comment on the Internet about this spell caster Metodo Ell. The comment said he doesn’t do spell for those who are not meant to be together. I mean i believe with all my heart that she is the one thing i needed in my life and i also know she needs me too so i thought he could help me get her back.He agreed to help me cos he also said we are soul mate. All i needed for the spell were materials to get the spell done. I could not get them so i paid him to get them for me since he is the expert in this stuff. After three days, he sent me a substance with instructions on how to make the spell effective and i did as he directed but honestly it took seven days to work i guess good things don’t work like zap. As far as i can tell that s$$t worked cos all my marriage problem just fell off my shoulder AFTER THE SPELL WAS CAST.My wife didn’t go through with the divorce and stepson is cool with me now. If you want to get him to cast a spell for you contact him here with this email address metodoacamufortress@yahoo. com he could also do a direct spell maybe it meant cost a little more than mine i don’t know him only can tell you that.

I recently signed onto the blog so this is my first response, even though I realize the blog was written some time ago. My response for my passion in life is my love of music and specifically singing opera. I spent 10 years between getting my degree and going back to school simply going through the paces. I had a job could support myself and was still singing but as a hobby. I found myself trying to find reasons to not go into work each day. I dreading getting out of bed and the only time I was happy was in a rehearsal for a show. It took me 10 years to realize that in order for me to live my authentic life I would only be happy doing what I love which is to sing. Just like you, Matthew, I would sing even if it garnered no money, recognition. I am now trying to do the same with the other areas of my life…friends, family, and relationships

Hi, I’m currently a freshman in high school and recently on Valentine’s Day a guy I didn’t really know called after me with his friends and told me he thought I was beautiful. I’m sort of wondering if he might have meant it simply as a compliment, or maybe as a sign that he’s interested? His locker’s also right next to mine, so we’ve seen each other a couple of times.

The thing is now, whenever I see him, I act like nothing happened. I don’t know if I should try saying hi or not because I’m not sure what he would think after all this time of me not saying anything and, as bad as it sounds, acknowledging his existence. I’m also still not sure if he just meant it as a compliment.

Should I maybe try to pursue something? I feel like the moment’s passed. Do you think he was interested?

As bizarre as using a spell to get close to the one you care about my sound to you all,its something you think of when you run out of option of what to do.And as a fact that i know, most of us are will to go to the extreme to get the person they care about close to them.Well in my case i fell in love with my neighbor wife. She was one hot woman with long legs nice ass and every thing a man dreams about a woman. Its was sad cos she was in a loveless marriage.Herself and her husband were like two strangers in the same house. The entire neighborhood notice that the never kiss or even hold hand or walk side by side with each other that kept everyone asking if there were really married. As at then i didn’t if i felt passion or lust or love all that was in my head was to make love to her all day.I couldn’t stop thinking about her.Yeah we starting seeing each other, going out on romantic dates, of course no one knew about us and soon it became a love affair.I knew it was hell wrong but she made me tremble just by thinking about her. Then i could link love passion lust as one.We never really talked much it was mostly passionate sex when we were together.I was sure i loved her that i could give my life for her.I just thought i should let her know i love her with my life so i dropped the “L” word.It was like i dropped an atomic bomb on her i could tell. She loved as much as i did but she was scared of love and her husband how she was gonna tell him i have been sleeping with our neighbor Hagee .I knew they were like stranger living in the same house so i just wanted to be with her for ever you know make are her and make her feel the burning desire i feel for her i wanted her to live her husband but she was not ready to it.It stayed that way for eighteen months i got so tried to asking as convincing her i got so desperate that i contact a spell caster MUTTON OSUN i discover online. There are lots of positive comment about him how he has helped a lot of desperate people like me.I he assured me that she was in love with me but was sacred he told me that doing the spell will not take her free will but fill her heart with overwhelming love for me.He said the spell bring this overwhelming love to the surface of her heart and then she will be willing to give anything up for our love.I needed some material for the spell which he asked me to get.I could get them but could not find any where to send them down to him.I had to send down the money to him to help me get them where he was.It 800 dollars maybe other people materials will be less expensive it all varies but my was not a waste of money cos the spell worked but it took 7 days to be effective and all that.In the she left her loveless husband and since then we have been together it been a year now.if you may want to contact him use this email address godsofosunx@rocketmail. com

I love taking pictures. I’m studying photography and I’ve been taking pictures of my friends and friends of friends for years. If someone I don’t know is asking for a personal photoshoot, I don’t think about money and I ask them how much would they like to pay for that. I don’t want some financial issues to stop them from getting nice pictures. I really enjoy time communicating with my my friends or new people and making creative results out of it.

I find myresonance and inner peace in what many call the occult. Astrology, numerology and the like. Feels like home. My love life is on the rocks to some extent. Him wanting me, but also asking me to sleep around. It’s lose lose. Those things are my distraction. They sooth the soul.

  17. J. says:

    Hi Matthew,

Thanks for this post. It so articulately sums up why I love what I am doing in my life. I work in the field of advanced education and training, and I work to make post-secondary more accessible and relevant for folks from all walks of life. It requires long and crazy work days, but it allows me to be creative in developing different ways of reaching out to people, and to work on things that can really make a difference in someone’s every day life, like raising literacy levels. I love it. Your post also sums up why I love distance running. It requires a lot of time, focus, and heart to stick with it, sometimes it’s painful, and people often think I’m crazy for doing it. But for me it is exhilarating to challenge myself, push for an extra couple of kilometres, or try for a new personal best.

    Cheers,
    J.

  18. Barbara says:

So true. The goal is not what motivates you longterm. At least not for me. But I’ve already known that

As for things I do solely because I love doing them .. there are a couple of things – but practically, learning ANYTHING new.
Right now, while I’m still living with my mother (a musician, btw), I want to learn anything I can.
It’s fun, it’s different, and feels great. But there is one thing about that .. learning something is never obsolete. So it will be useful, perhaps not everything, but you never know when you need something anyways.

I started playing alto-flute just a week ago. I got incredibly far during this week, and started piano a few days ago,

I’m learning to knit(working on leg warmers right now, because it’s fun. And you can easily do it while you watch something

I love singing. Singing makes me happy. And helps me when I’m down.

I started to go to the gym and sauna regularily .. not because it’s healthy (although that is a good point), but because I simply love it. I wouldn’t do it otherwise.

    And I love learning Japanese.

There’s too much to love for me, haha^^
    Life sure is great!

    Hello,
Firstly, I’d like to thank you SO much for this post. Seriously, I was motivated by the rewards only when it comes to my love life, until now. You made me notice something no one else could, which is where my mistake is. Thank you!
Well, now answering your question: I’m no professional folk singer, I’m actually a translator (which is something else I enjoy doing) but what I LOVE to do without expecting any reward for is singing Irish songs. I will do it until I die, and even if I lose my voice someday, I will still do it in my mind… because I LOVE it!

Hi Matthew I just love your website and this blog and your tips just everything. Thanks so much for everything i really appreciate it. Now the one thing that i love to do is Singing but everyone better than me in singing. Ive posted one video on youtube from me singing but i removed it because for it wasn’t good enough. And a few days later i saw Christina Grimmie singing on youtube and than i just thought she i so good in singing i never be good enough too improve her so since than i just leave it. well i love too sing but it never gonna workout like i thought i would. Maybe i just think wrong i dont know?
And something that i love to do is baking i just love to bake cake cupcakes for everyone. and in the bakery on school is one boy that i like very much. He like the same thing as me and he wants to be a baker later. Just like me and now is he following a eduction to become a baker and next year he is going to that another school to follow that education and i’m afraid that im not gonna see him anymore. Well once i was in a situation that i want to ask his phonenumber well i was afraid to ask him. So i ask a another boy for advice how you can ask his phonenumber and that boy were i asked that advice from says Why? do you like him? and i said to him yeah i do like him from you can now it that i like him i dont mind. So He walks to that boy i like in the bakkery and they have a little man to man talk about me. And have must go to him to hear it himself and he Said sweet for asking but NO. But i think he said no because all the other boys were stand arround him and said to him. Come on give this girl your phonenumber. I dont know? Later i said that he only use his phone to do games on it. Hi Matthew,

Not to sound too cheesy but my passion is life. Life with all the happy and sad moments, victories and losses, challengies, lessons, and opportunities. It’s a miracle in itself to have a chance to live so enjoying every piece of it is my watchword. As the song from Chicago musical goes “If life is a game I’ll play it the best”!

    Cheers,

Cooking, snowboarding, and carring for my dog are my main things I do just beacause I love them! :D
Thank you for sharing such an amzing song too!! I just fell inlove with Watsky, and I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of him yet.

  31. Hanna says:

Something i do that just fills me up with love is caring for animals, and especially dogs.. Right now i live in India and no matter what dog i meet (often stray dogs) i give them anything i can for food or give them some love. Its not because i want to be a good person or anything i just love them so much! And peoples views on strays are often so wrong.. Maybe i have an eye for which dog to walk up to and not, but every dog i meet is so kind and respectful! And i think it brightens both my day and the dogs after spending some time togheter!

Matthew – I have several passions but my top two are singing and reading. If I’m not doing one, I’m doing the other. Sometimes I sing and read at the same time. They both bring me peace when I need time to think, and its who I am.

    Desiree :)

  33. Anamaria says:

    Hi Matthew Hussey,

to answer your question… My passion is singing… I love to sing, i’m not as good as most but that doesn’t stop me from singing. Anyways your blogs are awesome. I like reading them :).

Have an awesome day, night ..wherever and whenever your reading this :)

    Kind Regards,

My passion is Interior Design and Gardening. I help run my family business which is a retail store and I really have little time for my passion at the moment. What I really want to do is open my own retail store and show how spaces can be created with old and new products (Furniture, home decor and plants) I am really good at it and I always have friends and family asking me for advice. I also have a 3 year college education in Interior Architectural Design. I am living in a small apartment right now and leaves little room to do what I love but I just bought a house and will be getting the keys April 12th. I will have about 6 weeks to do any major renovations and then I will be able to start organizing my plan to open up shop. I am excited about it and can’t wait to be able to move into my larger space. I also love writing, painting, knitting and sewing. I hope to do more of those things when I get into my new house and sell some of my products that I make. Scarves, purses and bags being some of my favourites to make. Thank you for asking this question because even if it is never read by anyone it at least got me to write it down. Somehow it now makes it more real and feels possible that it will happen! Matthew you have fueled me to get started on my passion right away! Love to you and what you do! Your are an inspiration! x

  35. Rose says:

    Hey there

Interesting question Matt – what are my passions?
At first I couldn’t think of any. Then it dawned on me, I do over 30 hours a week voluntary work – not because I have to but because I choose to. I gave up a wonderful career to make a difference to the world. Small steps are the best way. I received a comment earlier from a young lady who I’m mentoring to take my position (eventually), “I wish that when I do your job, that I’ll be nearly as good as you – you work so hard.” I told her that flattery gets you everywhere lol. On a serious note – it’s amazing to make a difference to somebody else’s life. I love to motivate people or simply be a shoulder to cry on (I’m nosey, I can’t help it hehe). So watch out Matt – I might try to steal your job:-)

    Love

    Matt,

I mentioned this already a few times on this blog – I love coaching and mentoring, or let’s say trying to get the best out of people and inspire them. It is like to give energy and immed. it gets back to you. Such a great feeling! I work in HR, which I love, so my focus is ‘getthejob’ :) and I must say you have been great inspiration for me.
    Cheers!

    Hi Matt,

My passion when things go sour that I move forward, is listening to music and dancing when no one looking. I’m still trying to break my shield of being shy especailly with a certain guy.
And he knows it too. Strange thing too, when I see him we main eye contact and sent each other smile. To this today I kick my self (not physically) but there were times that I think he was hinting me that he want to hang out or go on a date but, yes the shyness kick in.

But if things change i’ll let you know.

    Shyness.

    Hey there Matthew!

Honestly there are several things that I absolutely love to do simply for the sake of doing them. Whether it be drawing (or painting), writing, or singing, I feel passionate about it. I love creative expression. I don’t earn any money doing any of these things(maybe someday that will change),but I can’t imagine not doing them.

Also, I just wanted to thank you for all the thought-provoking blog posts you take the time and effort to put up. It always makes my day just a little better when I see a new post.

Maybe this sounds weird but seeing you on the previews of Ready for Love feels almost like seeing a friend or someone you know on TV, and then you’re like “Hey, I know that guy!”… except you don’t actually know them, you just follow them on the internet…
Haha anyways, keep being awesome – can’t wait to see the show! Thanks again,

I live in Brazil and I’m already in a relationship (for almost 8 years now), but I like to read your posts because it helps me understand the male mind a little bit more… As for my passion, my boyfriend and I have launched a digital magazine about music about three years ago just for the heck of it – I’m a journalist, he’s a designer, we both love to talk about music. We expanded it to a web portal last year. So far we didn’t see a dime out of it, but we got a lot of respect from labels and other people in the business. We got to interview a lot of people we admire. But it gets frustrating sometimes to see no one wanting to invest in our websites. I seriously thought it would’ve happened for us already…

  45. Kerly says:

    Oh Matthew..
I just can’t even explain how happy I am that I ever found you on youtube last year..

You are literally the biggest discovery in my life so far… in an eye opening way,,
I have learned so so much from your videos, articles, book, online training page..
You are my biggest inspiration, and whenever I need to be motivated I just watch one of ur videos:))
I think you are such an awesome person, and I would truly like to meet you one day,..I don’t know if you even do private meet ups, especially now when things are really going great for you. If not I’ll find a way to meet you some day:) I think you would like me:) hehe..

But on this topic: my true passion is dancing, it is just something I love doing, I get lost in it. I believe people should do what they love, and I am definitely one of those people who will do what I love no matter what:)

Love you Matthew, good luck with your new show and enjoy the feeling of success..yeah just try to enjoy everything good that comes along with whatever you are experiencing now:) Seize the moments and appreciate every second of your life:) xxx

  50. Alicia says:

    Hi Matthew.

I’ve wanted to share my feelings with you for a long time. More or less along this subject. I have been following you blog for a couple years now and I just want to thank you for the wonderful work you do. You are an inspiration to so many people.

When I started following your blog I have to admit I was looking for a form of a confidence boost. I mean everyone needs one from time to time but I had severely suffered from depression two years before. During that time I never got suicidal because I still loved myself, but I just felt inadequate on so many levels. I struggled to show others my true and wonderful self. But I knew I could do it. I had seen instances of greatness in me that I leaned upon. I was always the younger awkward sister and felt that I didn’t quite compare to beautiful sister with the new marriage. So I found myself looking in all the wrong places in hopes to gain experience and perspective. Until I found your work.
I have to say I was a bit sceptical at fist but as I took your advice to open myself up for new learning and start a fresh my world has changed.
Who I was then and who I am now is completely different, but necessarily in the ways that you’d expect. My expectations when I started listening to you was that I would get great dating tips and insights. That possibly I might feel more secure in talking to guys. And even though that has been a great outcome I seen changes in myself that have shocked even me, the one who saw the potential in myself in the first place.

I gained a confidence that I couldn’t describe. I was no longer afraid of rejection from not only men, but my peers. I started to walk a little taller and to sing a little louder in my car. I laughed a lot more at things that I saw as genuinely hilarious and embarrassing moments didn’t bother me as much. (Esp. because I know they’re bound to happen haha!) Stressful situations didn’t stress me out anymore and even though some may say it’s unhealthy stress often feels like a distance memory. Why is it that all these changes happened? It’s because I learned to love myself. Yes LOVE myself. I began to love my quirks, my aspirations, my passion, and my head-strong ways. I began to see myself as the beautiful person I am. I look in the mirror and think ‘yeah, she’s beautiful.’ Because as cliche as this might seem I had truly discovered that I’M WORTH IT. Something had changed… snapped. My love of life had a new energy to steam out from; my love of myself. Never before did I expect to have the result that I did. But the way that you talked about an individuals worth I guess rubbed off.
So my passion has become funnily enough in the past while has changed from wanting to inspire others to loving myself first so I can inspire others. I always knew who I was and thought I knew what I was capable of but until it started to manifest itself in my own life did I realize that I am an amazing person. I am funny, I am talented, I am quirky, and a kind sincere person. I love life, and my family. But most of all I love myself.

From that realization where I let everything go and didn’t worry about being perfect, or being the top student everything good, and I mean EVERYTHING good began to “rush-in”. My association with friends and family began to change. I started to notice people would always be around me and were drawn to who I was quirks and all. A ridiculous amount of guys started asking my on dates. To the point where I would actually have to reschedule with some because I already had a date that evening. I noticed people would get super animated and happy when I walk into a room. I began to be the confidant of so many friends who even at first acquaintance would share themselves and their deep desire with me. And what did I say to them? You are worth it! You are an amazing person! And I’m glad we are friends!

So when you ask what I’m passionate about (and I’m a VERY passionate person) I say to you that I love to inspire people. That had always been my ultimate goal. I had a love for life and experiences that drove me to want to place these teachings that I have learned in films to share with the world. I’m in school for film but I’m also a student of life and experience. But the conclusion I’ve come to is that if I want to truly help others I fist have to help myself. I have to love myself if I want to give them the best me. So that is what I’m doing. Loving myself because the people I’m with so that they can be fulfilled by being with me, and in turn discover their own potential. For we can truly do and be anything we want. We just have to believe. And whether love or comes around or not it doesn’t worry me anymore because my worth does not come from what anyone else thinks of me. It comes from within. And so if that love comes around I can truly say that I am being my best-self.
So Matthew I want to thank you. Little did I know that your words would have such an impact on me. And of course it didn’t happen overnight but it was a gradual progression of changing thoughts and ideas to ones that were actually correct. And it’s almost humorous for me to look back at where I started and where I am going. Without a true love and belief in myself I would have never had the guts to pursue my career in film, I would not be moving to the U.K. even though I’ve always wanted to, I would ALSO not be going on as many dates as I do (thought you’d appreciate that insight), and I would not be able to inspire others. I have had so many opportunities since then and I can say that I know exactly where you are coming from. There’s is nothing quite so fulfilling.

So thank you Matthew Hussey for having the courage, the passion, and the insight to stand up for people everywhere. For it was what you said that sparked this powerhouse into changing her whole existence into something worthwhile and amazing.

Hope you have a wonderful day because you deserve it! :)

    Your sister in arms,

    Alicia.

  54. Diane says:

    Hello Matt !
Your question just makes me want to…. CRY !!! Why ? Because you made me realize that I’m not passionate about ANYTHING !
I’ve been trying so hard to please everyone in my life (family, friends, teachers,…) that I never took time to ask myself what I really wanted to do. I was so afraid of what others would think of me. It’s ridiculous I know, but I couldn’t help it.
I have a good friend of mine who think I should do some traveling. She says it would do me some good. It’s true that I’ve always wanted to do that, but I never had the opportunity.
I can’t help but feeling a little depressed about that realization.

I still have to thank you. With your questions I always have to take some time to think about my life and it’s not something I easily do.

I hope you’ll keep on helping people like you do for many years because you’re really good at it.

    Kind regards,
    Didi

hej – what I love is to experience: new things, situations and people. I love to learn about everything – I’m curious by heart and from the core. Life is so full of surprises and I like to use the bad ones to make something good from it. I love to learn about how my self works and how the world works and also the people within it. If I would start to get specific it would be just the tip of a pin needle, but I want to give you an idea of what I mean i.e. love: I love to write, draw and sing – I like art, theatre and musik. I love to teach and to learn how to teach (this is what I do right now with third-graders) and I love science: medicine, psychologie, history, biology, physics,… they offer lots of knowledge. What I like, too, is to study and practice religions/beliefs – it’s such a big area which is often the basis of what a person starts from to life her/his life and therefore very important. And I like to say thanks – I’m thankful for you blog, Matt, because it is inspiring.

I have been feeling a little down lately and your blog made me feel a lot better. I kind of have trouble in love, but I’m not going to talk about it right now.
I love to dance, paint, sing, make photographs, write and learn foreign languages. I’m actually going to study English and German, because I think that doing what I like is the best thing I can do in my life. These days I’ve also been thinking about writing a story and posting it online to see what reactions I’ll get. My friends already told me that I’m really good at writing stories, so I hope I can maybe make somebodys day better with my stories someday just like you did it for me with this blog.
    Have a nice day! ;)

What do you do in your life for no other reason than you LOVE it?

Cardboard Castles ~ What a great video :-)
    Thanks for sharing Matt.

I follow your posts with much interest. Yet, what would you advise a woman who lost all hope, because having been in long-term relationships and things never worked out for good?

I get in contact easily with men to an extend that I found myself tuning-it-down a bit ;-) The reason behind this is that I am now in a point of my life where I started to ‘run’ from these connections due to the heart-break experiences I’ve had.

There is to say, I also am a mom and I do it truly all alone, which means I haven’t gotten out in years. There is no more freedom to go out and meet new people par se. I can’t see myself just flirting around in a supermarket basically because I am not that type of ‘flirty person’ any longer. I don’t necessarily hold up a STOP-Sign but I have stopped the “Happy-Go-Light” Expressions due to just NOT FEELING IT ANYMORE.

I found, due to personal life experience, that relationships are usually really great at their beginnings and then things wear off, at least for the male part, because most men truly lack depth when it comes to daily life. Any discord, an argument or a fight, difference in some interests (no-one is exactly the same, or likes all the same things) could send them cheating on a woman in no time …

I am truly curious about one issue:
“Does the cheating happen first, and then home life turns into a hell of ignorance, lack of communication, long faces, time spent apart etc… – or …. does every day life create an unrest in a man that he then starts to cheat?”

How can any relationship last if men are as they are? … In my opinion always seeking adventure and excitement, seeking the new and therefore it’s interesting until it wears off …. So I have to admit that I truly have become someone who isn’t willing to put forth the energy any more … After all I have my own agenda and my daughter to take care off.

I do feel incomplete … and the truth is that I am still heart-broken over my ex-boyfriend due to the fact of how it all went …. When a guy accuses you of cheating, and you know for a fact that you didn’t still he insists, without presenting any evidence, doesn’t even want to reveal what brought him to think that …. I feel he is the one who actually cheated … and/or uses this phrase as an excuse to break-off the relationship for his own reasons in a very dis-honest way. Yet he played his role so very well, as the accuser, even crying, letting me think that he believed his own made-up-story about me.
I am still devastated about it all, yet I used to find him flirting here and there with his EX on Facebook. So who is the real cheater? … and has been all this time? – I’d say it’s him, because cheating starts in the mind ….

What do you advise men, dear Matt, who never are truly sure who IS THE ONE for him? How are you helping them stop toying with many women all at once? – Men like this are the ultimate reason why women start to go in retreat and are actually not really interested in the ‘dating-game’ anymore … There are too many “Jack-Of-All-Trades” out there, and a girl won’t really know until she has started to open up to him, has fallen in love with him and already has given so much of herself.

I have seen it, heard it and I have also experienced it over and over again, that the minute a woman finally dares to show her love, the man starts to pull back and becomes less and less interested in her and in the relationship.
It almost seems like a coarse :-(

I truly believe men are to understand how much suffering it causes women to ‘put on a show for him’, to suppress her feelings, to having to constantly being careful not to get hurt … and then when we finally start to feel emotionally safe, DANG – there comes the ‘jerk-reaction’ on his behalf …. as if so the ‘feeling safe with him’ is a sign to let go of her because he got what he wanted and that’s that!

Concerning your question what it is that I would do and who I’d be in life just for the love of doing it, feeling it, and being it …. I have to say it’s my artwork (painting or digital), singing (maybe I should pursue it more seriously?) and wanting to help women to stop feeling beat-up over men who seemingly aren’t ready to dive into the deep-felt and loyal love-business. I am also more-so on the spiritual path, religious dogma feels toxic to me ;-) so I am interested in all types of topics that revolve around Quantum Physics and the Science of Creation. I’d love to travel as I used to but that’s not possible with a small child. I’d be just happy right now to get out here and there to events that are of my personal interest (and that has absolutely nothing to do with ‘meeting a guy”)

I’ve realized that in life there is never any guarantee for any relationship to last …. It has saddened me much …

I wish I could meet THE ONE, my true Twin Soul (Twin Flame) cause that’s the only way, I believe, an openness and willingness to truly stay together would occur on a mutual basis. Only strong relationships would work through issues coming up … and never ever would any of the Soul-Partners betray the other one’s trust in such a way that he/she would force her/him out of his/her life … because loving communication would always be established – no matter how bad the argument (often caused through misunderstandings/misinterpretations) …. Unfortunately most men are just NOT that DEEP … They easily feel overwhelmed and prefer a superficial life-style of shine and glamor, thriving of competition …. then they turn around and complain that they only attract women of the same Vibe.

A man is to understand that if he truly wants an Angel in his Life it is his duty to create a Heaven for her …. and to keep it up too. –

~ Let your heart be your eyes and ears, and not your eyes and ears be fools of deception! ~ :-)

…. and this goes out to all women ….
STOP believing that what he shows you at first, or what he says … Actions speak louder than words! – Most of all pay attention and make sure to find out IF HE FEELS IT, too ….. NOT ONLY YOU! ♥ Wishful thinking has lead many of us astray, just because he was nice here and there, said the right thing, here and there …. Men are the ones who love to play games, they often say things NOT BECAUSE they care how you feel, but because they love your positive reaction to what they have said or done in the moment, because this way they get to stroke their Ego … as in “I am great!” Men are so into themselves and full of it ….. which would truly explain why they lose interest after they know that you are also in love …. All they truly wanted was THE PRIZE … Women are nothing but trophies to be placed behind glass after they scored …. No wonder they then start to reduce their attention ….

Sorry Matt, up to this point no matter what I have heard and read online, in books, talked to people, nothing at all has yet convinced me that men could actually be turned around into “LOVE-PUPPIES” based on how a woman interacts with him authentically, unless she takes on a role that she fake-ly plays to please him, always being highly alert and living in her mind ….. which will eventually BREAK HER DOWN and wanting to leave, because she will never be able to be open and honest about her deep, loving feelings for him without losing him too.

Just my opinion built on what has transpired through life! – It is very rare that people meet their Twin-Soul where the attraction is so strong and everlasting in ways where one could not be without the other in their life any more. Society prefers to lives through superficiality, unfortunately.

    Love & Peace Everyone ~ ♥ ~

    • Yvonne says:

      Dear Michelle,
      I just read your post.
I seems to me that your friend and you are on two different levels when it comes to personal interests.
Are you often tagging along and let her determine the places to hang out? Are you feeling yourself ‘standing in her vibration’ as she is assertive and you are more so of a follower concerning her?
If so, I’d say the reason why she ends up with the guy is because you both gather at places she is drawn to, which means there are guys that more-so fit her style and whereabouts.

From what I can read between the lines it seems that she likes to play ‘catch’ and isn’t very serious about any of the guys she is dating? – while at the same time you are more looking for a serious relationship?
Well, if both spend time at places where superficiality is the underlying ‘vibe of the day, or night’ then of course she will attract the guys because those are her places to be!

You said you love music and you have a serious goal to actually pursue this professionally. I take it that you are a person who actually wants to live life through a higher purpose than to ‘just meet guys and flirt’. Am I correct with this? Please feel free to state otherwise, in case I may be wrong.

My suggestion for you would be to hang out around places of Art & Music (not night-clubs for quick pick-up. I am sure you know what I mean ;-)

Maybe it would be good to get to know people/guys in an area that are serious, just like you, about same interests and make friends there …. I think this should be an easy endeavor for you, since you wrote that you smile a lot and are open to interact with people of all type and sorts?

You may wish to follow Matt’s suggestions concerning ‘breaking the ice” type of clues, adjust your body-language in case you find a guy attractive. BUT, do it in those places of ‘mutual interest’ and not where your friend is taking you. You may want to consider doing things on your own some type so you won’t have to feel competitive in reference to her, or she in reference to you.

I hope my thoughts are helping you a bit in order to try something new in your spare time.

      ~ Love & Peace ~
      Yvonne

Writing. I love to write and one day I hope to become a successful novelist. I’ve written two novels so far, but I haven’t got the – sorry – balls to send it to a publisher. I feel like I’m not ready, just yet ^^ but that’s what I really do love. Very passionate about it. It’s my sword and shiled.
Matt, you need to upload more, man! I love to hear from you! Congrats on everything you’ve accomplished so far. You are awesome, my friend :D

  69. Marie-antonine Woutaz says:

I love it when you write that one of the most important thing (…) is to emotionally connect with your material. If you don’t do that, you can have the best material in the world but you won’t speak from the heart”. That is what I’ve always done with my Tango Djing and I keep doing it… I would stop Djing if there were no emotional connection.
Again thank you Matt for your support and inspiration. Keep doing what you love. Take care! Marie-Antonine

Anthropology. It is the one thing I have wanted to do since I was 5. I have fought to maintain my grades because that is the only way I could get the money for college. I didn’t quit when I was told that being female I should go into nursing or some other sexist occupation by older, male colleagues (who then proceeded to hit on me). It is one thing that I would rather do for free and be homeless than not do at all.

  71. Carol says:

Your ethos, regular messages and book have been a great inspiration and motivation for me in love, work and life in general. Keep up the fantastic work! I’m hoping it will be possible to catch some of your US show on the web as the clip was great :-)

I LOVE helping other people. I get really happy with helping somebody through a random act of kindness, or just listening and giving advice to my friends.

It feels good to be able to help :) My own sense of self value is deeply connected with what I’m able to do to on behalf of someone else.

  73. Rachel says:

Wow! So many comments in just a few hours! It just goes to show how you words speak to so many people…

Ok what do I love? I’ve managed to combine 2 of my biggest passions!

I make jewellery,I’ve always been a creative person and always found a great feeling of achievement when I’ve produced something people enjoy. I sell the jewellery and the profits go to charity. This is where my second passion comes in. The money goes to animal rescue organisations. I’ve always had an obsession with wildlife. I actually recently adopted a jaguar too!

Keep up the good work and good luck with NBC and your book release!

I love, love, love what you wrote Matthew! In fact, I alwas say the exact same thing about what I do. I am a Graphic Designer, and from the day I started designing, not once did I feel like I was straining to get the work done, I have so much fun doing it! It is my passion, my life, and the way I earn my bread! But that’s not the only thing I love, like you said I also love love, I love my family even if they don’t love me back, I love my boyfriend, even if he is at times fickle, I love people even if I don’t even know them, and I LOVE you for finally explaining what I could not express in words! Love in fact is an absolute, and knowing as such will always constitute our every fiber of our being!

oh by the way, i’ve tried your advice about to attract man nice and easy but somehow i’m still afraid if i am just gonna be his friendzone perhaps because i’m fat and taller than him?? :(

if u read this, pls make a video bout that. thank you so muuuuch for such an inspiring blog.

This is not a sob story when I say my son is terminally ill and I don’t get out a lot! So the Internet is great for me.
The situation in my life has made me feel love more intensely, but there is always the feeling that maybe I should numb it down for when the inevitable happens. I’m storing all your wise words in my mind for when I might need to use them!

In regards to passion I love traveling, food, cooking, painting, working with numbers and anything competitive. But…

Matthew, I’ve been on sooo many dates the past year, so many people I’ve met, so many guys I’ve had to get over. Just when I start to be excited about someone new , out of the blue it is done. I know it’s just not out of the blue but I am so sick of this. And as your video states I put my best self on and still!

I don’t find it hard to pick up a guy, but for some reason they do not stay. And I know most of your tips and pay for your videos… but when the 40th billion time someone this year has just stopped talking to me after asking for my number, being on a couple of dates, or even dating for a bit – it really does make me wonder what I am doing wrong.

Ugh if I could tell you my life story I would, which is this nonsense for 24 years. I’m giving up hope, as I just started to get it back :(

And of course my pupils make me happy daily, i’m only 20 and i believe i’m on the right way!

Hi Matthew! I guess at the moment I really do not give myself a break because I just got a new job of getting which I started pursuing already in July when the owner of this place just had a tiny idea of opening that shop in that location. I heard about that idea then and jumped on it by sending him a letter with my resumé in it. A month later I randomly saw him in his other shop in another city. He went out to drink wine with his friends. As I told one of the young guys working there that I sent and e-mail he encouraged me a lot to go and talk to the owner. So after being convinced for 15 minutes I out of characterly went and had a chat with him. All this happened in July and August 2013. In January 2013 I saw an advert of them officially looking for employees in that location I had applied for. Therefore I sent him an e-mail saying hey it’s me, I’m still interested and available. So now in March 2013 I’m an proud employee of that company. we opened our boutique in that location exactly a week ago. So long story short: I never thought that my dreams, nevermind how small or big, could come true, but obviously they do. In addition last week while working I met a customer that responded extremely accurately to my idea of the man I’d really really like. For the first time ever I actually felt that a guy actually is as interested in me as am I in him. At least according to the signs. Anyway since I might not see him ever again I’ll always remember the feeling. Such a confidence booster.
    AMAZING!
    But I LOVE my job!

I absolutely LOVE going to theatre in order to watch plays, ballets, musicals… Actually I’m going there tonight! Therefore I must finish writing a part of my bachelor thesis and another uni paper before I go. :) :)

But it’s amazing how life changes! The 2013 is absolutely wonderful! I’m sure it’s an beginning of a new awfully happy period of my life when the last 12 years bloody horrible.

Keep up the good work, Matthew! Keep chasing your dreams!

And big big thank you! :)

I remember when I accidentally came across your videos (about a year ago) and I liked what I learned. What I like and I do regardless of what would happen is quilling and maybe one day I will be able to make a competition with people who do quilling, is an art and not everyone has that talent.

I have been trying to recover from chronic fatigue syndrome for five years now. It’s a tough one, trying so hard to get rid of it. There have been some rewards and improvements however most of the time it is more trying to get rid of it and recover and now being rewarded.
I guess how can I get past this?
I’m doing everything I can that’s in my control and will look at my achievements and improvements.
Good luck with the retreat :)

I LOVE your blogs. : ) What am I passionate about? I am thinking about doing some kid of ministry, maybe go on a missions trip or something.

  91. Lisa says:

Passion is my passion. My whole life, people have called me words like “fiery” and “loud” and “enthusiastic” because I do nothing by halves. I’m either fully passionate, or completely indifferent. I don’t seem to have a dimmer switch.

In the past, it scared off guys (but attracted gay best friends in droves!). The advice I got from people usually amounted to them saying, “Tone it down.” But then I didn’t feel true to myself.

It took your videos for me to realize how amplified my natural assertiveness was, and you’ve helped me redirect my energies into a more playful and teasing expression.

Can’t wait until you come to NYC next month! Already have my ticket!!

  92. CelesteK says:

When my husband died three years ago, I realized I had two choices: 1) Stay stuck in the passenger seat of a life I loved but that was limited to the things we BOTH wanted or 2)Take the chance that everyone around me would think I was nuts and do what I really wanted to do.

I’m opening a bed and breakfast (which I’m building from the ground up) so I can combine a love of taking care of people (on my own terms) by offering them a comfortable, peaceful, interesting place to stay and also allow myself to spend my days playing. Playing in my garden, playing with my animals, playing music, playing with words and ideas…just…whatever I want. And I love that my daughters will get to grow up watching their mother do that.

I’ve reached an age and a level of life experience where I just don’t care if people think I’ve lost my mind. If I’m the crazy outspoken environmentalist artsy hippie woman on the hill who writes songs but doesn’t want a music career and refuses to eat her animals, then so be it. I’m spending my days being present inside what I love. Anyone else’s ideas about what I should do with my precious time be damned.

  93. Priscille says:

I love working out. It has been a fundamental part of my life the past 6 years. It has transformed my body and my confidence. But unfortunately it doesn’t replace having a man to love, which is what I’m struggling quite alot with at present.

I love the environment. I have been fighting relentlessly since I was 12 to educate people about why caring about our world and the people in it is the greatest calling of all. But it is really draining when I give and give and people around me take and take and never understand my passion. I hope one day that will change.

I love graphic design. That’s what I am studying at college. I actually switched to graphic design/art after fighting it for years because everyone was telling me that I could not make it my life or my career. I made the switch shortly after I found your videos. Then I found a story in a book i was reading about the bumble bee. It said there is not reason that can be proven by physics that the bumble bee should fly. It flies because it has to. With both your videos and blog and that story, I changed the plan for my entire life. Keeping in mind that you do what you love and love what you do because sometimes you just have to be a bumble bee.

    Thank you so much,

I love helping out our citizens, educating them and helping to make sure our officers have everything they need in order to do their jobs effectively & efficiently. It makes me really happy.

Unfortunately due to the hours and stresss that domes with the job my love life has fallen on the back burner, this I have decided to change. I am going out more, working out, eating right and I feel amazing!! I have been taking what I have learned from you and put it into play. Just this weekend I was out with friends and created an opportunity. There was a guy at the club that I caught looking at me sobefore iI left I approached him with my name & number… We will see what happens! But the fact that I did it with nothing but pure confidence and his reaction of a raised eyebrow and a smile when he took my information was priceless and if it served as nothing more than to boost both our confidence, that makes me EXTREMELY Happy as well! :)

Either in the car when we re heading to some where, or when we were hanging at the coffiehouse or somethings. I love sharing things about what i read, what i watched lately, what is happening around me, any good imformation that i think it might help them in their life. By sharing the imformation with them make me feel good, is like showing my love and corcern towarss them. The more deep the conversation, the more loved i felt. The funny thing is, sometimes is them that asking me whats new that i can share with them. Isnt that lovely?? Yeah. Like seriously, i will just join any talk without getting any pay. Like seriously lovin it.

I love working out. Particularly Crossfit. It has become my passion in the last year and I can’t get enough of it… It is also where I’ve met the man of my dreams.. But the problem is that he is a trainer there and there is a rule about dating clients. So though we’ve always been flirty, nothing has ever happened. Now I’ve actually started to take steps to become a trainer there and since then he and I have hung out a few times but though he flirts with me and other people have made comments about how he is obviously crazy about me he has never said anything to me about how he really feels.. I know he can’t break that rule.. But is it a bad sign that he still hasn’t made his feelings known after all this time? Should I wait and see if things change when I’m not a client anymore.. Or let go now?

  106. Iris says:

    Hi,

I love living and creating my life and learning from it. The first 30 years of my life I pretty much spend it in fear and my life was lived by it.
It turned pretty nasty for a while and decided that there is only one way to live.

TAKE CONTROL AND FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.

So I packed up my things and left dreadful Holland.
It’s not always an easy road since most of the time when I get a new project in my mind of what next I want to do with my life it means that I have to let go of some other things. But when I finally manage to manifest my new life, the payoff is amazing. It makes me realize I can do anything.
Since I’m seriously running out of time, my new big (long term) project is becoming a mother. Next to that I’ve got lots of other projects in my heart as well, like finding a second home on a warm and sunny island next to my lovely home in beautiful but rainy, misty and cold Ireland.

I love to coach people in nutrition and exercise, to walk them through the weight loss process to find a healthy weight, and even more important, a healthy lifestyle. I like to help them understand that there are no “bad” foods, just bad relationships with foods. I like to encourage them, to listen to their struggles and to help them find a way through them.

  108. Manon says:

While I was reading you, your video appeared at the bottom and I went “Oh I know this one so well” ;)
Believe it or not, a lot of what you give are ‘my thoughts – your words.’
I would like to gently poke at your word choice on two things though, it is not a “holiday” it is a trip… And we are on board with you, so keep enjoying it thoroughly, cuz we do, thanks to you! :) This said, I totally get what you mean and am genuinely happy for you in every aspect of the way.
Moreover, it is the first time I have seen you use the word “obsession” when in fact PASSION it is. You are a true definition of passion. To cut it short: “It requires a passionate person to generate the strength and enthusiasm to apply the effort needed to achieve and create, which requires they “make great demands of themselves.” http://bit.ly/WIunfJ You better relate to this, because that is totally what you have, a passion you honour ;) So even if this one ends, and selling cheeseburgers is next, I would still buy. :p
My passion is putting a smile on other people’s faces (whether I know them or not). :) I am starting to think, that I have a real inside urge to make people feel better about themselves and life. Life is not a b*tch, life is wow… It all about the intonation of the ‘wow’… (Ok my other passion is the ocean, but people keep getting it wrong by always saying “Oh yeah right, you wanna save the dolphins and the whales”. When in fact it is much deeper than that…)
Now, this might sound blunt, as you wouldn’t really say that to someone you have met once, but I have respect for you Matthew. You HAVE come a long way and yes in your case it is sometimes good to step off the treadmill and look at how far you have come (that’s a healthy approach). Be proud of yourself, for not only guiding woman how to get a guy, but for all those you inspire in becoming a better part of themselves (like you), for that today you are not only showing us a 3 years old video but a ‘you’ who has transformed itself over the years. You remind me of the ugly duckling lol.

I love to loose myself in something creative. Photography, chainmaille or some sort of creative endevor where I can loose myself and just enjoy the process. I am always tinkering and learning new crafts, I love it so much. This past weekend I took part in a local craft fair (my first one ever), it is rewarding to see other people enjoy the things you put together. Thanks for the blog post, it makes my day reading such positive things. Good luck with all of your exciting upcoming releases!

When we get caught up in a piece of music, we don’t search for rewards, we’re in the moment, intense and loving, and we enjoy …See the parallel? ;) Your job is to teach us to get “in tune” lol
    Thanks :)
P.S. Really wish you could come in Montreal next time :)

I really needed encouragement today and receiving this email was perfect timing.

I love everything about independent filmmaking, writing, shooting and editing films is truly my passion. I love writing screenplays, mainly dark comedies, because that involves another love of mine, the love of laughter. Being able to laugh and having a sense of humor has got me through the hardest times in my life. If I can make someone laugh and have a better day through my films then my mission is accomplished.

I’m working on a dark comedy right now about a blind date gone bad, called “Invali-Date.” Probably not the best advertisement for what you do…lol. Anyway, the people who have read my screenplay and have seen the footage shot so far laugh and think it’s really good.

I’ve decided I’m not going to mess around with other work in between films to pay my bills and this time I’m determined to make a living in film, no matter what now…FTW !

    Cheers!

    I love my life!

I love helping people through design. Through design I am able to help a business owner grow his/her business by creating their brand. I am to create social consciousness and support many causes through thought provoking posters or illustrations.

I love doing this so much that I would do it for free if I didn’t need to make a living ;)

Wildlife conservation. After volunteering in Africa I came home to California and started volunteering in wildlife rehabilitation. I love it and am in the process of selling my business (which I spent the last 10 years building and now realize adds nothing to my life) so that I can focus on what I really should be doing.

  116. Ashley says:

I love to read. I like to lock myself in my room and just dive into a new book. I enjoy making connections with the characters and if I am really into it, I become emotional and start talking or yelling at the what’s going on. Reading for me can become an emotional roller coaster and after I finish it I usually want to reread it or remember my favorite scenes. Reading a book is my personal oasis where I can pick out my favorite book if I am feeling down or need something to make me laugh.

Another song you might like is ‘King’ by Lauren Aquilina. It’s all about being happy with who you are, etc. I absolutely love it! Have a listen to it :)

I really liked the fact that you showcased some of your older works.
Your dedication is inspirational! To answer your question, I play the acoustic and electric guitar for no other reason than the enjoyment it brings me. Though I know I will never persue it as a career I couldn’t picture my life without such a simple pleasure.

Great post Matt. I’ve been following your work for a couple of years now. I’ve watched numerous of your seminar video’s and you have always been one of my favorites. since i started working on myself, i’ve completely changed my life. I’m more confident in myself, I have a better understanding of the big picture, i’m very successful in my career, and i have a great girlfriend. I have to thank you for indirectly helping me change my life. The great thing is i’ve made what i learned my mentality and lifestyle and the sky is the limit where i’m headed. Much like you.

Regarding your question, i have a few passions in life. One being my career, which is I’m working to take a small company to exceptional growth, which not to mention is super successful thanks to me instilling a lot of the mentality into it that i’ve spoken of above.

I’m also passionate about working out and playing poker on a semi professional level.

Anyway, keep it up Matt. You’re only getting started. :)

I’m a singer and an actor living in New York City. I do whatever I can for a living, short of anything immoral. I’m not too good for any job. The thing that most people don’t know is that I went to college on a full academic scholarship. I had law schools and advertising agencies recruiting me before I even graduated. But that’s never mattered to me. All I can think about doing as a career is finding opportunities to act and sing. I’ve had some limited successes so far and I think there are good things on the horizon for me, but even if I knew they would never happen, I would still sing every day. I sing while I’m working, while I’m cooking, while I’m scrubbing the floor. I sing when I get ready in the morning. And I will do it every day for the rest of my life. It balances me. It makes me happy. And I’ll never, ever stop…even if people on the train look at me like I’m crazy when they catch me inadvertently humming.

I haven’t seen results yet, but I don’t care. Maybe I won’t get into college, and maybe my work will stay on my barely acknowledged tumblr page, but I’ll keep creating because for me, without that, there’s nothing.

I love writing! Especially poetry. I also am obsessed with learning languages. I have been learning Spanish for a little more than two and a half years now and I am enjoying it so much that I’m already teaching it! I have been dabbling in other languages too. And I never knew that I had any special capacity for language learning until 6 or 7 months in when I took it up at university, but I was enjoying it all along despite the struggle of learning it alone. And in August, I’m moving to Spain!!! People are like, ooh isn’t that scary?? And I’m like “NO!!”. I’m not scared at all. I’m too excited. Thank you for your posts. They are always so wonderfully uplifting. Especially as I am going to need a lot of confidence for meeting new people in a new country, new culture. Can’t wait to put your tips into practice on those Spanish hunks haha!

    Love,
    Debz

I also love to color pictures and ride motorycles and bring love back into peoples hearts through emotional healing or just by being there for them. Its something I believe I was born with and although sometimes it backfires because not all the world is dandy I still keep it going no matter what. Can’t wait to meet you in Los Angeles. But I don’t know where in lA its gonna be. Thanks again and God Bless your soul! ;)

I also have a job that I love that involves helping people with their problems on a daily basis, I love doing but, and sorry if this is a little off piste, what is your advice for the times that taking others problems on becomes a little suffocating? It happens to me once every couple of months- it’s definately difficult helping others all the time – how do u take a break from the emotions- to ensure that you can provide the best possible assistance to the client?A private email response is fine if you don’t think it is appropriate to put the answer in this thread.

I love getting a laugh out of somebody, whether it be to cheer them up or just telling them a silly joke/story. For example I attempted to make pancakes & ended up very confused as to why they tasted like an omlette (yeah I know). Laughter is a great and powerful bond.
Keep up the good work! :) x

    My NOVEL

I’ve been writing a novel the past year.
It started as a love, but just like relationships, after the inital attraction, you have to have a system in place to keep the magic going. I had a massive surge of motivation in the beginning; ideas, stars, rainbows and whirlpools of inspiration to dip in to whenever I wanted.

Then, as suddenly as it came, it went, and I was left with a half baked book.

Persistence saw me through to the end…and a strong vision of the people I’d touch and positively impact through my words fed that persistence like water to a plant.
I’m sure you can relate with your book too. It’s not easy, but if it were, everybody would do it.

Still working out the kinks, but I said to them, even if all that amounts is a fun hobby, mainly via YouTube I’m thinking, I’ll be thrilled cuz it makes me happy. And I’m happy for all your success! Saw the promo for your show on TV the other day. Looks good! And didn’t realize you had a book that was about to release in the US. Pretty cool! Thanks always for the positive energy. Cool song! My cardboard castles are writing stories, etc – mostly romance, LOL, but other things as well. I’m not published, but I write because that’s who I am. I still LOVE writing old fashioned letters to friends and family (very few people do that anymore, but I find it very romantic – now if I could just find a guy who felt that way! ). I can get lost in the pen and paper section of an office supply store for hours. ;) I’ve written all my life starting when I was 6 years old with my very own diary.

  150. Katrina says:

    Hi Matthew,

Thank you, as always, for the inspiring words!

I love to make people smile. I mean, who doesn’t, right? I try to go out of my way everyday to do or say something to make someone smile. Whether that means calling a loved one to tell them how much I appreciate them, being goofy to make someone laugh or saying hello to a stranger on the street and telling them that I hope they have a wonderful day (and truly meaning it). Putting a smile on a stranger’s face holds some deep satisfaction for me. I feel like that person is going to keep spreading that smile for the rest of his or her day. Ok, maybe I *do* get a little something from that. ;)

Thanks again, Matthew! I hope your next few weeks go as smoothly as possible. Good luck with everything!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Architecture ! it’s less about making cool new buildings, but more about making places for all aspects in our lives and spaces for people to have meaningful experiences. funny enough, any architectural project starts out as a vision (the big idea) then models (cardboard castles, for sure), becoming more and more real every step along the way. I really believe that ‘if you build it, they will come’ – I take the same approach to my love life – you have to make the space for something amazing to happen !

thanks a million Matthew, for all the positive energy

Honestly, I’m in a place in my life where I am focused on my work, career and myself. And while I’ve utilized some of the advice from GTG, I am feeling burnt out because in the spectrum of things, I don’t want my love life enough to spend the effort of it.

However, I am grateful because I can still use some of the advice in my work, career, and other ambitions. I love doing what I do, and I’m going to continue doing it. I love singing, I love helping people through Psychology and working, and I love my life. So while GTG may have not actually snagged me a man… it’s helped me so much in other areas of my life.
